About Dr. Oakes

Rebecca Oakes, Ph.D. has over 15 years experience helping families in Carroll Gardens.  She specializes in issues particular to women such as infertility, child development as well as postpartum depression.  She has a Masters in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver and Doctorate in School Psychology from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.  

Before starting her private practice she worked for five years as a family counselor for HeartShare Human Services in South Brooklyn.  While there, she provided play therapy, family counseling and parenting classes.  She is the former head of the Department of Psychology for the Crossroads School for Child Development, a private preschool serving special needs children.  She also conducts assessments for children concerning the diagnosis of autism, learning disabilities and emotional disorders.  Dr. Oakes has been an adjunct lecturer of educational psychology courses at Queens College and Brooklyn College as well as a consultant for the University Settlement in New York City.
